Management, extraction, use and processing of tucumã straw by women from Tapajós-Arapiuns Extractive Reserve, Pará, Brazil

This study aims to analyze the aspects of the management of tucumã straw, performed by artisans in the community of São Miguel, Resex Tapajós-Arapiuns, emphasizing the economic, social and environmental contributions of the activity. To obtain the data, will be performed 100% inventory of the area with approximately 2 ha. Information on the parameters will be collected: diameter at 1.30m from the ground (DBH), total height (Ht), number of individuals with their respective guides fit and not able to collect beyond the tillers, having 3 groups: 1- number of mature palm trees with harvesting guides; 2 - number of mature palm trees without harvesting guides; 3- natural regeneration. Straw production will be determined by counting the collected guides, in addition to their dry and wet mass measured. To understand if palm diameter and height influence the amount of straw production will be related to palm density in different class centers. It will be to calculate the yield of straw mass after primary beneficiation. It will be applied with the artisans a socioeconomic questionnaire collecting information about family establishments involving the social and economic issue. Another questionnaire will address issues intrinsic to palm, its uses, aspects of collection and processing difficulties and potentialities. In addition, to understand the production process of handcrafted pieces from the tucumã straw, all the processing of straw will be done until the pieces are made. The values of production will be quantified in real values in national currency (reais), taking into consideration the production of 2018. Production will be defined based on the economic viability of the activity, will be used as indicators net revenue (RL), compensation of the hand of family work (RMOF), estimated from the relationship between family work income (RTF) and the number of women.day-1 (daily) of labor used in the collection. The data will be analyzed and processed using the Excel for Windows® 2010, the data of visits and interviews will be analyzed in a descriptive / descriptive manner. It is expected to show that handicrafts in tucumã straw are of great importance in the economic, environmental and social scenario of the women of the São Miguel community, from the protagonism of these women.
