POST-MODERN PRÊT-À-PORTER? SOCIAL “DISPOSABLES” OF SANTARÉM, THEIR RELATIONS WITH URBAN TERRITORY AND THE STRUGGLE FOR CITIZENSHIP
Homeless. Urban territory. Citizenship.
This dissertative text deals with the homeless of Santarém city, in particular their relations with the urban territory and the struggle for citizenship, and to answer the scientific question that will guide the research, namely, the processes of exclusion and social vulnerability of homeless people in the municipality of Santarém can trigger possible conflicts present in the struggles of this social group to ensure a more dignified life, uninventing its condition of "social disposables"? With this purpose and the intention of achieving our objectives, as to investigate the figure of homeless people in the municipality of Santarém to identify factors that serve as an identifying criterion for citizenship in people in social vulnerability situations; to measure the number of homeless people who attend the river shore of Santarem, the Mercadão 2000 Market and the POP Center; to investigate how the exercise of social autonomy of the homeless happens; to investigate the means used by homeless people to claim and guarantee their citizenship rights; to analyse possible changes that characterize interventions in the particularities and survival mechanisms of homeless populations in Santarém urban scenario. We will opt for the use of a qualitative approach of research with semi-structured interviews, to present a look of recognition to the Santarém homeless people, their relations with the urban territory and the struggle for citizenship. The writing of the dissertation will be concentrated in a conception of voice narratives, with the researcher being the supporting actor and the researched people the main actors. In our case, the research actors will be the homeless in their statements they will be able to discuss what they propose to research from the guiding question of the whole process.
