RESUMO:

The climate of hot and humid urban environments and their impacts on physical activity are the subject of national and international studies. Currently, the street race has been widely spread as a sport practice, aiming at the physical conditioning, the stimulation of the cardiorespiratory system, being mostly performed in urban centers and, often, in wooded environments such as parks and urban forests. Thus, the project objective is to analyze the impact of urban environments on the cardiorespiratory system and on the quality of life of street runners in Santarém, Brazilian Amazonia. It is hypothesized that the Amazonian physical environment impacts the cardiorespiratory system and the quality of life of street runners; the physical fitness and cardiopulmonary function of street runners presents better rates in forestry environment and at night; and participants' perception of the environment affects the practice of street racing. This project will be conducted by a multidisciplinary team. Two medical, physical therapy and physical evaluations will be performed. Then, in two public places, a forestry environment (streets with trees) and another urbanized without trees (streets), the professionals will evaluate. The running protocol will be held in the morning shifts at 6 o'clock and night shifts at 20 o'clock. The project team will assess athletes' vital signs, fitness, peak breathing, muscle strength; and the physical variables of the running environment, such as temperature, air velocity and relative humidity, and illuminance values. An interview will be conducted with each runner at the end of all the above phases in order to record subjective measures of quality of life from the insertion in the running groups. As an objective measure, the Whoqol short version questionnaire will be applied as a quality of life assessment tool. The project will be submitted to the Research Ethics Committee of the State University of Pará, Campus XII. It is expected to favor the practice of street racing through the availability of the results achieved, contributing to the participants' functional gains, positively impacting their health and quality of life.
