SUMMARY:

Fruit farming is an important economic activity for family farmers, bringing income and job, which maintains the farmers in the field. In addition to contributes to economic and social development. Among the fruit species grown by the family farmers, the soursop (Annona muricata L.) has been nationally highlighted due to the increase in the cultivated area, mainly in northern and northeast regions. The soursop can be consumed in natura or even in sweets manufacturing, liqueurs, juices, ice cream flavor and jellies.  Also, the soursop is rich in vitamins A, B, C, and other nutrients that are widely used in popular medicine. Yet, some barriers hinder its production, such as poor knowledge about diseases, pests and better ways of its management. Hence, this work aims on not only characterize the socioeconomical profile but also the limits and possibilities of the cultivation, based on cases in a farming community in Santarém, Pará. the assessment of the social economy data will be collected though semi-structured interviews with the farmers. The interview will contain open and closed questions. The agronomical information will be obtained from visits to the soursop plantations, plus the information obtained from the interviews, direct observations and photographic records, using a field notebook to systematize the information. Its expected with this work to understand and describe the soursop production systems, also the socioeconomical profile of these farmers, in Santarém, to figure out possibilities and limits to its cultivation in the region.
