Sustainability indicators in animal production, sheep farming in the Amazon, family farming.
Currently, in the face of global climate change, sustainable animal production has been the focus of research around the world. One of the first technologies developed for sustainable use was based on the manipulation of pastoral vegetation. The sheep and goat farming is configured as a sustainable creation of animal protein production in the Amazon, potentially economically viable due to its high added value per hectare, providing greater social and gender inclusion. As consumers increasingly demand information that was not previously considered when choosing products, taking into account the ethical and environmental impacts on food production, now considered essential attributes, the search for sustainability indicators in the quality production chain and food security has become urgent. Based on the above, the study aimed to know which are the main sustainability indicators in sheep farming from the perceptions of producers in Santarém. The research will be carried out in a descriptive and exploratory way as a basis for the master's dissertation of the Social, Environmental and Quality of Life postgraduate program at the Federal University of Western Pará (UFOPA). Will be visited 30 properties of sheep farmers, who also develop other activities such as cattle, goats, poultry, production of vegetables and fruit. The objective of this study will be to identify indicators of sustainability in sheep farming from the perception of producers on social, economic, technological, environmental, institutional and cultural aspects. And the survey results can be reflected in a participatory way among local communities, academia and government agencies.
