SUMMARY:

The first decades of the 21st century brought great challenges to humanity. In Brazil, after the dismissal of a legitimately elected president, Dilma Rousseff, diverse reforms were done, including the 2017 Labor Reform, which was approved by a majority in the Brazilian National Congress and ratified by then President Michel Temer. Considering this new social, political, and labor context, this research is related to Culture and the labor activities of artists who make culture and suffered all consequences of the changes in labor legislation in Brazil from 2017 onwards. For a didactic understanding of our research, this work aims to answer the following scientific question “What impacts occurred in the working life of people who develop the craft of creating, making and promoting culture in western Pará with the change in labor legislation implemented by the Federal Government nationwide in 2017, with Law No. 13,467?” The main objective of this research is to investigate how the new labor legislation, enacted in 2017, in Brazil, impacted the lives of people who work with culture, especially those who work in the Municipality of Santarém. In addition to this objective, we intend to characterize the crop growers who work in the Municipality of Santarém by using a cadastral tool; to compare the activities of these workers since 2012 and after the labor reform of 2017 to the present; to identify the impacts caused on labor activities by the covid-19 pandemic, investigating whether the new labor legislation weakened or strengthened working conditions caused by the pandemic; to analyze public policies aimed at culture makers regarding socioeconomic issues; to investigate the socioeconomic impacts caused in the lives of culture makers. Based on theories developed by Krein (2018, 2019), Michetti and Burgos (2016), the methodological path takes place through the field with semi-structured interviews with culture makers who develop their practices in western region of Pará state. The data collected will be analyzed based on theoretical analysis. As partial results, it is worth highlighting: the importance of discussing the impacts caused by the labor reform; how cultural workers were affected by this change; and the need for public policies that benefit culture makers, among other subjects.
