RESUMO:

Collective marks or distinctive signs can be understood as the symbolic representation of a group, which produces something or a process differently from the others. It has great potential as an inducer for local development, but in the Amazonian regional context there are still few initiatives that use the collective brand as a strategy for marketing regional products, be they forestry or handicrafts in general. In this context, the present work aims to analyze the impacts of obtaining the Collective Brand Aíra - Cuias de Santarém, on the economic and social development of the communities that integrate the region of Aritapera, in the municipality of Santarém, western Pará, where artisanal production of gourds is recognized for its traditionality. To this end, a bibliographic, documentary and quantitative survey was carried out, data collection was carried out at the site and in the city of Santarém, specifically at the Cristo Rei Handicraft Center and at the Municipal Market, in addition to informal interviews and remote application of questionnaires. Through the results, it is possible to understand the know-how of the socio-cultural practices developed by the group of artisans involved in the process of production of the gourds, as well as the whole process until the brand was obtained, and what are the social and economic reflexes in the place. Thus, it was possible to observe that the Aíra brand has contributed to the rise of local development as it has given greater visibility to the communities of Aritapera, increasing the production and commercialization of gourds, in addition to the valorization of knowledge, handicrafts and cultural goods in this region.
