KEY WORDS:

AREA: Fisiologia
SUMMARY:

Social behavior is a set of acquired skills aimed at adaptability and interaction with the environment in which we live, behavior that is present in several species. In pathological situations, this social interaction is significantly compromised, resulting in dysfunctions such as anxiety disorders. The use of organisms as experimental models has represented a promising strategy for the investigation of social behavior. Given this scenario, the aim of this study is to evaluate behavioral characteristics related to anxiety in the species Colossoma macropomum (tambaqui) with a focus on predictive validity in the light/dark test and the use of a classic anxiolytic (diazepam). 300 juvenile tambaquis and 300 adult zebrafish will be used. The tests will be carried out in an apparatus (45x10x15cm) with two compartments, one light and the other dark, it is important to emphasize the preference of the species for dark environments. The procedures performed will be: (1) intra-session habituation, (2) intra-session habituation after immersion in diazepam, (3) inter-session habituation with an interval of 24 hours, (4) inter-session habituation with an interval of 15 minutes. The total time in each compartment will be recorded, as well as the number of crossings from one compartment to another. The tests will be recorded by a camera, transferred and stored on a computer for data analysis, which will be performed with the help of the ToxTrac program, version 2.98. As an expected result, the validation of a model in the light/dark apparatus with the Colossoma macropomum will collaborate with findings in the field of research related to anxiety in the Amazon, as it is a regional animal and easily accessible, as well as providing studies on new drugs anxiolytics, obtained from local bioactives.
