SUMMARY:

Pregnancy is a period of physiological and psychosocial changes that goes beyond the biologistic and hospilatalocentric concept and escapes the lens of integrality, which (re)defines this period as the interstice of transformations that go beyond physiological changes, taking into account the totality of the person's body and mind, guaranteeing the right to be born as well as to gestate. Methylmercury (CH3Hg) is the most harmful form of metal for human health, and is present in the Amazon ecosystem mainly as a result of anthropogenic activities over the years, namely Deforestation, slash-and-burn agriculture, soil siltation, illegal mining, industrial activities, widespread logging, intensified land use and the construction of hydroelectric dams. In this case, pregnant women, who are a risk group due to the conditions that pregnancy imposes on this delicate and important moment in their lives, which problematise the logic of good living and the right to health, raise the following concern, which can be considered a question: Since prenatal care is one of the ways to guarantee a safe pregnancy until the moment of delivery, are pregnant women aware of the risks of mercury exposure in the Lower Tapajós region? What do they know about it? Are there any recommendations regarding mercury exposure during prenatal care? Are any tests required to assess mercury exposure during prenatal care? Given that primary care is the gateway to the SUS, it is where the population has access to the health services closest to where they live. The care provided to pregnant women during antenatal care aims to identify potential problems at an early stage that could lead to unfavourable outcomes and cause problems that could later culminate in a catastrophic outcome. The aim of this study is to evaluate antenatal care for pregnant women exposed to mercury in the Lower Tapajós region. It is a field study with a quantitative and qualitative approach, of cross-sectional and descriptive type, which will be carried out in the Baixo Tapajós region, Santarém (PA), in the years 2023 and 2024. This research project was submitted to the Research Ethics Committee (CEP) of the State University of Pará (UFOPA) and was approved under the CAAE: 68121023.7.0000.017, after which the data collection phase began.
