EDUCATING FOR INFORMATION: THE IMPORTANCE OF TRAINING TEACHERS IN MEDIA EDUCATION AND IN THE FIGHT AGAINST DISINFORMATION
Teacher training. Media Education. Inoculation Theory.
In an environment of extreme polarization, Fake News, disinformation and bad information, supported by the structuring information systems of the large digital technology platforms, individual opinion ends up taking the space of the news, and even though it is paradoxical to perceive greater freedom of expression of citizens , at the same time provokes reflections on its limits, making it increasingly necessary to discuss the importance of Media Education within teacher training environments. The research in question discusses how to train teachers to mediate teaching and learning processes, guided by the context of Media Education, who understand, identify and combat misinformation. The objective of this thesis is to develop an approach to teacher training in Media Education, implementing and analyzing pedagogical practices that incorporate strategies to combat misinformation, initially through a pilot test with students of the Degree in Educational Informatics and later, with students from other degrees from the Federal University of Western Pará - UFOPA. As the research is guided by the development of practical solutions, the Design Based Research - DBR is proposed as a methodological approach, which constitutes an epistemological base method of Design Science and Design Science Research, also aligned with the Theory of Psychological Inoculation as possible way to this implementation. The proposal for teacher training was carried out in a "pilot" class, with students from the Degree in Educational Informatics at UFOPA, during the months of April, May and June 2022 and incorporated aspects of the Theory of Psychological Inoculation, aiming to promote greater Participant resistance to online misinformation. Currently, the research is in the preliminary data analysis phase.
