SUMMARY:

The case study on Ecouniversity in a pan-Amazonian forest has as its research locus the Institute of Nature and Culture (INC) of the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), located in the micro-region of Alto Solimões and the triple border between Brazil, Peru and Colombia, region of population with expressive ethnic and social diversity. The quantitative-qualitative research, in progress, starts from the concern: what theoretical and representative design is an Ecouniversity delineated, based on theories and epistemologies subsidized in cultural, social and environmental elements, with indigenous graduates in interaction with non-indigenous people of the INC-UFAM, on the pan-Amazonian border of Brazil, Peru and Colombia? The characterization of the object under study, in its complexity, evokes a research method consistent with its peculiarities and encourages the Human-ecological Weaving. Amidst the theoretical-epistemological dialogues of critical, decolonial theories and contextual meta-epistemology with the investigated object and Amazonian context, the epistemology of ecoculturality and the theory of ecocultural education emanate. In documental and political-legal studies, management and curricular indicators of higher education with ecocultural principles have been raised. As for the subjects, an analysis will be carried out to characterize the identity, socio-historical, academic and professional profile of the graduates (2010-2021). Next, the survey and analysis of perceptions and impressions of the University and eco-university representations will be carried out through survey questionnaires, conversation circles and a tool that generates an affective map of the university with the graduates, with an accentuated look at the indigenous people. Walsh (1997), Vargas (2022), Acosta (2015), Sobrinho (2015) and others support the theoretical study, especially Freire (1979), for inspiring us to think of the human being as a historically constructed subject, with different cultures, way of being and living in the world, oppressed, but capable of transforming itself and society. In this sense, this scientific practice in higher education values not only the “how” to build, but also “who builds” and “where they build”, and considers ecoculturality as an epistemology inherent to the Pan-Amazonian peoples and fundamental to the construction of an Ecouniversity.
