SUMMARY:

The research deals with the educational political project developed by the Franciscana in Maristella nuns, in the municipality of Juruti, taking the period from 1970 to 1992 as a historical perspective, with emphasis on early childhood education. As soon as they landed in Juruti, the nuns soon observed several contradictions, such as the extreme poverty of the majority of the population and the wealth of the farmers, traders who in turn took turns in political office. As it would not be possible to change this situation immediately, they created a strategic plan. In the short term, they proposed improvements in the precarious situation in which the majority of the population lived and in the long term, to promote political education to those involved in the actions, through training courses for popular leaders with the objective of opposing the economic elite. We can infer that it was present, even if indirectly, what we found in the writings of Marx (2013), Gramsci (1999), Lukács (2010) and Saviani (1999), namely: the struggle for social improvement articulated with the right the education and appreciation of science as well as the critical understanding of history. In this way, they took over the main school in the municipality, health care, started the construction of popular houses through a joint effort, consolidated handicrafts and signed an agreement with the extinct Legião Brasileira de Assistência – LBA, for the construction and maintenance of day care centers. and preschools in the city's urban and rural areas. Social, educational and religious service through the Base Ecclesiastical Communities (CEBs) spread throughout the municipality, producing leaders who strengthened the workers' union and soon founded the political party that began to annoy the rich who took turns in power. From the 1980s onwards, the members of the union managed to elect councilors and regularize the lands of small farmers that previously belonged to landowners, this stoked the anger of the municipal representatives who opposed the priests and nuns, accusing them of being communists and threatening them with death. The fear of a tragedy made the Franciscans close their activities at the municipal seat in 1992. In this way, the research seeks to answer how a project based on early childhood education, religious precepts and social services was able to contribute so that small farmers could influence the political directions for the municipality of Juruti? The objective will be to analyze the development of early childhood education in line with popular and political party activities. As for the methodology, it will be based on dialectical historical materialism. The sources consulted for the analysis will be documents and dialogues with the new and old coordination of Associação Amiga das Crianças, of which the researcher was also a member.
