SUMMARY:

There is an apparent consensus among professors and educators who research the field that the library collaborates or would collaborate for the dissemination of the necessary knowledge for human formation and improvement of education in the country. On the other hand, there is an extensive production of works that identify library fragility and low efficiency, in some cases, its non-existence in public schools, in several Brazilian states. Given this finding, this thesis seeks to inquire what the proposed discourses are based on and legitimized and why they do not find substance in the Brazilian school reality, to understand why is it so difficult to make a library? To examine the apparent paradox between an announced proposition and an objective reality in which the school library does not happen, the research is directed to a specific region, in the interior of the Amazônia, West of Pará, in which a set of fifteen The works that are analyses, not only intervened in space, whether revitalizing or building it, but also in the reading training of teachers and students and, in the short term, were the decadence. Its theoretical-methodological approach is the conceptions of Education by Adorno (2005), School Education by Saviani (2003, 2012) and school library by Álvarez and Castrillón (2013), Britto (2016) and Farias, Britto and Santos (2020). The methodological path follows: Conceptual study (reflective dialogue between theory and the studied object); Bibliographic survey and work analysis (articles, dissertations, theses, among others that are considered relevant) and Empirical research (visit to school libraries for date collection and analysis).
