SUMMARY:

The primary objective of this work is to address and answer this question: What is the understanding of academic literacy and training that is carried out in studies on university education, as well as its theoretical-methodological implications? The thesis that is supported, as shown by Gomes's dissertation (2023) that initiates the debate on literacy in this perspective and is incorporated in this research, is that literacy, including academic literacy, were incorporated and disseminated in the Brazilian academic and pedagogic context, dispensing with criticism and inquiry into primitive terms, due to an epistemological oscillation of the human sciences. The issue to be discussed is based on two understandings of reading and writing at the university. One concerns the one posed by literacy theory; the other concerns studies on university education by Britto and his collaborators. The aim is to inquire into the field of academic literacy about the way in which the term has been incorporated into the Brazilian academic debate, seeking to answer the following questions underlying the guiding question: What exactly does academic literacy mean? What distinguishes academic literacy from reading and writing or from university-study knowledge and skills? How is it set and what effects does it have? What is the understanding of university? And, above all, what conception of academic development underlies these studies? To answer these questions, a bibliographical survey is underway, consisting of articles that bring the theme of academic literacy. So far, 165 articles, 15 dissertations, 5 books and 18 theses have been surveyed. In addition to this survey, a survey of research groups that have research lines on the subject has been carried out, with 37 accredited Directory of Research Groups of CNPq’s Lattes Platform. It is intended to organize a corpus of analysis as dense as possible, clippings will only be made in specific cases, since the objective of this survey is to inquire the field as a whole, seeking to know what has been understood by academic literacy in the debate on Brazilian higher education. The analysis will be carried out avoiding giving labels that are believed to limit further analysis. These are as many procedures as necessary to answer the questions established in the research problem. The analysis of the productions (corpus) will be carried out by the following means: Scanner reading, in a synthetic way, observing the keywords, title, subtitles, references; Search through the PDF reader's occurrence search engine to find concepts that are of interest to be deepened; Reading of abstracts, seeking to understand objectives, epistemological basis, locus and research subjects, method of data production, as well as the results of productions of the corpus of analysis and; finally, the reading of the texts selected by these processes in their entirety. The research is organized into 3 independent and complementary essays: a. Formation of the subject and knowledge: ways of learning in contemporary society; b. Reading and writing at the university; c. Academic Literacy.
