The Postgraduate Program in Society, Environment and Quality of Life (PPGSAQ), recommended by CAPES, is based on INTERDISCIPLINARY concentration area, and has the mission of promoting investigations on the existing dynamic complexity between society and nature, in the epistemological scenes of sustainable development in order to subsidize the humans with knowledge about environment and its transformation, aiming to integrate the multiple dimensions as sustainability, conservation of natural resources, environmental health and the improvement of the quality of life of human populations, and future generations. The PPGSAQ is organized in two researching lines, namely: I. Public Policies, Cultural Diversity and Amazonian Development. Interdisciplinary studies and research with emphasis on the Amazonian realities and diversities in: a) Research on public policies and forms of social organization geared to regional development; b) Analysis of public policies with emphasis on education, health and the environment, underlying planning, financing, evaluation and management of systems, as well as the training of human resources; c) Research on knowledge systems, culture and history patrimonialities, nature, memory, territory, in relations with environmental education and regional development. II - Biodiversity, Health and Sustainability. Interdisciplinary studies and research on the structure, ecological processes and dynamics of natural and / or anthropogenic ecosystems, as regards: a) Investigations of the impacts of human activities on biodiversity, ecosystem services and ecosystem resilience and / or health relation to quality of life; b) Research on the relationship between environmental knowledge, issues of social organization and governance; c) Analysis of the interrelations between communities and the natural environment through the sustainable use / management of natural resources from the ecological and socio-economic point of view. The course is characterized by a plurality of theoretical and methodological approaches aimed at the training of researchers capable of investigating, reflecting and managing the complexities, challenges and conflicts related to human-nature mediations, under the aegis of sustainability, environmental health and quality of life. Course Objectives • To train teachers for higher education and researchers capable of investigating, reflecting and managing the complexities, challenges and conflicts linked to the interrelation between human-nature, under the aegis of sustainability, environmental health and quality of life. • To Produce knowledge based on analysis of concrete situations, developing interdisciplinary research with methodological rigor and respecting ethical principles; • To Contribute in a qualified manner in the conception, implantation and evaluation of the public policies focused on the sustainable development in the Amazon Region; • To identify, understand and act in a propositive and innovative way in the solutions of socio-cultural, environmental and health problems arising from human interventions on ecosystems. In this way, the programme assumes the responsibility of: • Providing theoretical, methodological and epistemological conditions for the training and qualification of researchers, teachers and managers in the interdisciplinary area, developing autonomy, creativity, criticality and cooperation;  • Training professionals who work in teaching, research, extension and productive activities, respecting the principles of socio-cultural, environmental and economic sustainability, in the spheres of State, organized civil society and the market; • Contributing to the creation and strengthening of research groups and qualified critical mass, committed to sustainable development in its multiple dimensions. Program History The Master's Degree in Society, Environment and Quality of Life (PPGSAQ) was an initiative of teachers of the Center for Interdisciplinary Formation (CFI) of the Federal University of Western Para (Ufopa) submitted to the Coordination of Improvement of Higher Level Personnel (Capes) in 2015. The approval of the proposal for an academic master's degree was announced on 04/25/2016. The team of the programme is diverse and comprehensive, involving teachers with varied training (Administration, Agronomy, Biological Sciences, Social Communication / Journalism, Forest Engineering, Pharmacy and Biochemistry, Clinical and Toxicological Analysis, History, Mathematics, Veterinary Medicine, Pedagogy, Psychology Industrial Chemistry and Theology). From the point of view of postgraduate and academic production, the faculty also presents rich diversity (Tropical Agriculture, Botany, Sciences, Agrarian Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Education, School Education, Romance Epistemology, Veterinary Medicine, Oceanography, Psychobiology Psychology, Sociology, Toxicology and Zoology). This configuration shows, according to Capes' assessment, "a strong potential for interdisciplinary training and production, evidenced especially from texts already produced by teachers in which they seek approaches and interfaces between different fields of knowledge."
