SUMMARY:

Indigenous agricultural systems in the Amazon are characterized by the use of traditional practices developed over thousands of years, adapted to the unique characteristics of the Amazonian environment. Therefore, they are diverse and sustainable, reflecting the deep ecological and cultural knowledge of the region's indigenous peoples. Considering this context, this research project aims to investigate the traditional agricultural systems of the Borari indigenous people based on the ways of life in the Novo Lugar Village in Santarém, Pará. To this end, the specific objectives are: 1) to understand the state of the art of scientific production on indigenous agricultural systems in Brazil; 2) to characterize the agricultural systems of this indigenous group; 3) to investigate the strategies adopted to maintain agricultural systems in the face of the challenges of climate change. The research proposed here is basic in nature, with a qualitative approach, exploratory and descriptive. Therefore, the methodological procedures that will be adopted will be based on bibliometric research to conduct a state-of-the-art analysis, followed by participatory and ethnographic research, which will utilize participant observation, field diaries, semi-structured interviews, social mapping, and document analysis. The information will be systematized in Word documents and Excel spreadsheets for descriptive and ethnographic analysis. This research proposal is fundamental because the agricultural system in Aldeia Novo Lugar is based on traditional agricultural and sociability practices, such as clearing land by cutting and burning vegetation, preserving seed cassava, planting, weeding, harvesting crops, harvesting products, hunting, fishing, and other practices. These traditional practices are associated with a deep knowledge of nature and social relationships based on reciprocity and family ties, which contribute to the maintenance of culture and the conservation of local agrobiodiversity and the biocultural memory of the Indigenous population. Therefore, it is clear that the traditional agricultural systems of our region require research. As researchers, we have the opportunity to learn and add our knowledge to traditional practices to strengthen the practices already used in the village, making them visible and accessible to future generations.
